FAQ's

Can Canadian companies participate?

While there will be some procurement requests that exclude Canadian companies, under the Snow Eagle banner, we will only post those for which Canadian firms are welcome.

Dealing with any large organization can be very costly in time and money. How will this project help improve my success rate?

Over the past year, the US government has implemented an outreach program for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in the US, and in Canada. There is a history of cross-border collaboration in the defence sector, which has laid the groundwork for a much broader collaboration in a number of civil and industrial areas.

There are also partnerships between Canada and the US in a number of sectors on which we can build to help smaller companies compete effectively. There are a number of regional development initiatives and tax credits that can assist you in funding business development and research projects.

What sorts of R & D opportunities are there?

In addition to many of the traditional defence sector items such as aircraft, guidance systems, and military gear, there is a focus on biological, chemical & nuclear threat monitoring, detection, response and remediation. There is heightened interest in maritime security, port and container management.

Another emerging area is "First Responder" preparedness including procedures, tools & training as well as enhanced communication infrastructure, and overall infrastructure monitoring and management.

How does my company participate?

We are using two primary sources of company information to find & contact companies. First is the Security Communities Canada Security Expertise database. So, if your company information is provided there, it will help us contact you if we think that there is a technology fit, and you've indicated a willingness to be contacted.

The second source is the Canadian Companies Capability database which is provided by Industry Canada on the Strategis website. If your company profile is there, and current, we will be able to contact you based on the information provided.

If you are already working with other government agencies, that is very helpful information. If you are already working on US government projects, and are interested in partnering with other Canadian firms, that is also very helpful to us. We can assist you in finding companies with complementary technologies and interests.
